At Waypoint Christian Church, we believe “church” is more about the people than it is about a building, a program, or even the seats in which we sit. So if you’re looking for a place where you can connect with real people just like you, then we’d love to have you come and see what’s happening here.

In addition to real people, you’ll find a church that does everything we can to make the truth of the Bible relevant to life. That’s because God’s love for us is relevant and offers the best way to do life through Jesus Christ. No matter where you are in your spiritual journey or your notions about church or Christians, you’ll be warmly welcomed here and will find relationships that make a difference in your life.

Our Mission:

Is to make Disciples by loving God well and making His love well known.  We do this by winning, building, equipping and multiplying those in our sphere of influence.

Our Vision:

To invest in tomorrow's disciple makers today. We dream of nations, communities and duty stations, as well as individual lives being changed, as followers of Jesus are equipped and sent out on mission with the transforming message of the gospel.

Our Values:

  • To be a lighthouse to those far from Christ.
  • To be an aid station to the hurting.
  • To be a supply depot for the disciple-maker.

Waypoint Christian Church is Pastor and Elder led.  We are so honored to introduce to you our Interim Pastor and our Elder team that pour into Waypoint every day with their faithfulness to God.

As a child I had wondered what made someone fit for heaven. At times I was troubled, trying to figure out the answer to the question. That question was clearly answered for me when I was ten years old, attending children’s church at the First Baptist Church of Stuart, Florida. That was when I heard the good news that the only person who ever lived who was fit for heaven was Jesus, and that by trusting in him, in his death for my sins, and in his resurrection, I could have my sins forgiven and have the assurance of eternal life. After placing my trust in Christ, changes really did not come for me until I entered high school, met some fully devoted followers of Christ, and began to understand what it meant for Christ to be the Lord of my life.

After high school I went to the University of Florida, where I majored in finance and went through the Army ROTC program. Upon graduation I was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army, and entered active duty.

Throughout the years in the Army I had sensed a growing call to full-time Christian ministry. Finally, after six years in the service I resigned my commission and began my studies at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Since graduating from seminary in 1996, I have served in churches and schools throughout Texas as a music minister, youth pastor, senior pastor, executive pastor, seminary professor and dean. Along the way I also picked up a Ph.D. from Baylor University.

I have been joyfully married to Kathy for over 30 years. We have three adult children and one beautiful granddaughter.

In 2020, God led Kathy and I to embark upon what we called the Year of Jubilee. We sold our home in south Texas, left my pastoral position there, bought a motorhome, and travelled around the United States connecting with over 90 people who had influenced our lives. Our goal was to thank them and bless them. God further led us to bring our Year of Jubilee to an end by serving Waypoint Christian Church. I can’t think of a more fitting ending to this year. We have already been abundantly blessed by the church family here. We can’t wait to see where God leads us next!

God qualifies those that He has called to perform His plans; He only seeks a willing heart. David and Christi desire to be willing participants in the progress of the gospel of Christ and to encourage others to do the same. The Smiths have been blessed with four daughters: Elise (12), Amelia (10), Adelaide (8), and Evaline (6). Their goal is to help the body of Christ to be actively involved and adherent to the scripture.
